Jerry Lordan Plaque
The singer, musician, and writer Jerry Lordan has been nominated to receive a blue plaque by BBC Radio Shropshire in conjunction with the British Plaque Trust.
Lordan wrote ‘Apache’ and many other hits for The Shadows, Cliff Richard, Jet Harris and Tony Meehan. (see British Rock Guitar page 87)
The plaque — which was unveiled by former Radio 1 DJ Mike Read and Jerry’s widow Claudine on Sunday 4th June — was put up on the side of the Three Tuns Inn in Bishop's Castle, where he spent many happy times.
There followed a champagne reception for invited friends which took place in the pub, with musicians playing, Lordan’s hits played on the jukebox, and the sheet music for his many hits adorned the walls.
Both Cliff Richard and Hank Marvin sent video messages.
